The person detained by the VDD has not been named but is described as a dual citizen of Estonia and Russia.
The VDD had received information that in January 29, a person desecrated the memorial stone 'Defenders of Kurekāns fortress - Latvian soldiers' in Daugavpils Parish of Latvia, and that the act of desecration was planned on behalf of the Russian special services.
The investigation reportedly being conducted with its Lithuanian and Estonian partner security services, as there are suspicions that the person has carried out similar activities at memorial sites in other Baltic countries as well.
