Russian agents suspected of planning sabotage in Germany were detained in Serbia with an explosive device, linked to efforts by the Joint Center for Countering Hybrid Threats.

Two suspected Russian agents were detained at the Serbian-Hungarian border for allegedly planning a sabotage operation on German territory targeting a defense industry facility supplying weapons to Ukraine. The arrests were enabled by intelligence from German and partner countries' agencies. An explosive device was found on the suspects. This is among the first known results of the Joint Center for Countering Hybrid Threats (GAZ Hybrid), which started in Berlin in June 2026, coordinating efforts against espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and disinformation threatening Germany and allies.
