Lithuanian authorities disrupted a Russia-linked plot involving parcel bomb attacks targeting the UK, Poland, and Germany in September 2025.
In September 2025, Lithuanian prosecutors announced the disruption of a Russia-linked terrorist plot involving the shipment of parcel bombs across Europe. Explosive devices were concealed in packages sent by land and air to the UK, Poland, and Germany, using European carriers such as DHL and DPD. Several parcels either exploded or were defused, including a device detonated at Leipzig Airport and another in a DHL warehouse in Birmingham, England. The plotters intended to use homemade incendiary devices concealed in everyday items with thermite, a highly flammable industrial substance. Multiple suspects, reportedly nationals of Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Ukraine with ties to Russian military intelligence, were apprehended. The investigation involved coordinated law enforcement and intelligence cooperation from Lithuania, Poland, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Latvia, Estonia, the US, and Canada under the EU Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust). Authorities found over six kilograms of explosives hidden in canned food containers during searches, suggesting additional planned attacks. Prosecutors noted suspects were recruited via Telegram and offered cryptocurrency payments.
Confidence: High
The event clearly describes a Russia-linked hostile terrorist plot involving parcel bombs to attack European countries and the coordinated disruption by law enforcement. The aggressor actors are confirmed as Russia-linked suspects with ties to Russian military intelligence, while the actions are hostile bombings. No defensive preparations are described, only disruption/investigation.
