On February 29, 2024, a Russian provocateur network reportedly became active across the Baltic states with multiple incidents in Latvia. Acts of vandalism include paint poured on legionnaires' monuments, graffiti of the letter 'Z' on various public objects, a Molotov cocktail attack at the Occupation Museum, damage to a window at the Stūra Māja building, and the removal of a partisans memorial plaque on Matīsa Street. These symbolic attacks appear intended to provoke social tension and undermine cultural heritage related to Latvian resistance history.
