On 18 December 2025, Latvia's Frakenburg Technologies successfully tested a new guided missile for anti-air defense and plans to produce up to 100 missiles daily starting next year to counter drone threats.
Frankenburg Technologies conducted successful tests of their new missile 'Mark 1' on 18 December 2025 at Latvia's Ādaži military base, demonstrating full interception and destruction of fast-moving aerial targets including drone threats such as Shahed-type systems. Founded in January 2024 with leadership from former Estonian defense officials, the company developed this cost-efficient, mass-producible missile within 13 months, a significantly faster timeframe compared to traditional defense projects. Supported by Latvian Ministry of Defense research and development contracts, the system integrates with detection and early warning networks to provide a flexible, multilayered anti-drone defense. Latvia plans to start production in 2026, reaching a capacity of 100 missiles per day. Total investment across five years is expected to reach tens of millions of euros, with both private and public funding. The project strengthens European defense technological sovereignty, supports local industry and supply chains, and contributes to boosting NATO Eastern flank defenses against emerging aerial threats. Cooperation with Rīga Technical University also aims at advancing research, development, and talent cultivation in missile technologies.
Confidence: High
The article details successful tests of a Latvian-developed anti-air missile system and planned large-scale production to enhance national and allied defense capabilities, clearly indicating alliance defense preparations without any hostile aggression.
