The accused are the Russian captain and an Azerbaijani bosun, charged with aggravated sabotage and aggravated interference with communications networks with potential prison terms of two to ten years. The damage occurred in Estonia's exclusive economic zone and Finnish territorial waters. Finnish authorities took control of the ship after the incident. The Fitburg was en route from Russia to Israel and was operating under the flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This incident follows a similar cable damage event in 2024 involving the oil tanker Eagle S.
