Latvian startup RANNON is developing unguided rocket-propelled ammunition for drone-to-drone combat, successfully testing launches on UAVs and progressing through European Defence Agency's BraveTech EU Phase II trials.
Latvian startup RANNON is developing rocket-propelled unguided ammunition specifically designed for drone-to-drone air combat. On 1 June, RANNON mounted its launcher on a quadcopter and successfully fired four rockets during flight, all achieving normal ignition and flight. The system's aiming and targeting capabilities are still under development with accuracy improvements needed. Subsequent tests were conducted in Estonia with seven more rocket launches during the BraveTech EU testing phase, integrating the system with several UAV platforms. The European Defence Agency (EDA) selected RANNON as one of six winners advancing to BraveTech EU Phase II, for further experimentation in battlefield-like settings. Although the weapon system is not yet fielded and lacks published data on range, accuracy, or kill probability, it represents an evolution in drone warfare from single-use interceptor drones to reusable weapons platforms capable of multiple engagements.
Confidence: High
The signal involves development and testing of new drone armament technology that represents military force evolution but does not indicate an active hostile or aggressive use nor ongoing attack. It impacts hybrid warfare through emerging capabilities.
