On 29 Sep 2025, Russian drone fragments were found in the Șontea Nouă canal area of the Danube Delta, Tulcea County. Confirmed by Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu at the Warsaw Security Forum. Investigation by MApN, SRI, and Border Police ongoing.
On 29 September 2025, multiple metallic fragments identified as parts of a Russian drone were found in the area of the Șontea Nouă canal in the Danube Delta, Tulcea County, Romania. Local residents reported seeing the drone fragments and alerted emergency services via 112. The Romanian Ministry of National Defence (MApN), Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), and Border Police formed a joint team to collect and investigate the drone remnants. The incident was publicly confirmed by the Romanian Defence Minister Ionuț Moșteanu during the Security Forum in Warsaw. At least 20 incidents of Russian drone fragments falling onto Romanian territory have been reported in the past three and a half years. The Ministry indicated that specialists will examine the recovered parts to determine whether they were used in the Ukraine conflict.
Confidence: High
The finding of drone fragments of Russian origin on Romanian territory constitutes direct evidence of hostile hybrid activities, as drones are known to be used by Russian forces in hybrid warfare contexts, especially related to the Ukraine conflict. The involvement of defense and intelligence agencies, confirmation by the Defense Minister, and multiple events of this type in the past support this classification.
