On December 3, 2025, the Russian navy tanker GENERAL SKOBELEV was observed idling for several hours near Sweden's maritime border in the Baltic Sea. A Swedish corvette approached and maneuvered at high speed near the tanker, indicating naval intimidation or close approaches. The tanker was later seen in company with a Russian Baltic Fleet patrol ship, suggesting coordinated Russian naval activity. At the same time, Danish naval forces were shadowing the tanker as it exited the Baltic Sea. This incident reflects ongoing Russian naval movements near Swedish waters, involving shadowing and potential intimidation tactics by NATO member states. The presence of warship escorts and proximity to Swedish territorial waters highlight rising maritime tensions in the Baltic region.
