On the night of November 6, 2025, Lithuanian border guards stopped a Škoda Octavia Combi near Marijampolė, southwestern Lithuania, driven by a 59-year-old Tauragė resident. Inside the vehicle and its boot, they found seven irregular migrants—four Pakistanis aged 19 to 34, two Afghans aged 25 and 41, and one 23-year-old Sudanese—who had no identity or travel documents. The migrants reportedly first flew to Belarus, illegally crossed from Belarus to Latvia, and intended to reach Western Europe, likely Germany. The driver admitted to being paid EUR 700 to transport the migrants from Latvia to the Polish border. A pre-trial investigation on human smuggling was opened, with penalties up to eight years imprisonment.
