Likely explosives were discovered near the Wunstorf German airbase close to a previously found malfunctioning drone. The drone may have been present for about two years and resembles drones used in the failed August drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport, attributed to Russia by Germany.
Suspicious substances likely explosives were found near the Wunstorf military airfield in Lower Saxony, Germany, close to the site where a malfunctioning drone was previously discovered. The drone, broken into pieces and found by a farmer more than a week ago, may have been on or near the airfield for up to two years. The drone parts include at least one component made via 3D printing and resemble drones involved in a failed drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport aimed at destroying Ukrainian cargo planes. The Wunstorf airbase is a key Bundeswehr transport hub for troops and equipment. German investigators are exploring a possible link between the drone discovery and the August Leipzig attack, for which the German government holds Russia responsible.
Confidence: High
The discovery of likely explosives near a key military airbase and a drone linked to a prior attack attributed to Russia indicate hostile hybrid activity targeting critical military infrastructure.
