The Czech transport minister accused Russia of repeated cyberattacks on European railway infrastructure since February 2022, aiming to destabilize the EU and sabotage critical transport systems.

According to Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka, Russia has repeatedly attempted cyber intrusions into European railway networks, including attacks on the Czech rail company České dráhy's signaling and ticketing systems. These actions have been ongoing since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and aim to destabilize the EU by targeting critical infrastructure. While earlier attacks disrupted ticketing systems, causing concerns about potential serious accidents, Czech authorities believe they have so far successfully defended against severe intrusions. The Kremlin denies these allegations, calling them unfounded. EU and Czech cybersecurity agencies have issued warnings since 2023 about increasing pro-Russian cyberattacks on railway companies across Europe, including in Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, and Estonia. In response, Czech initiatives include enhanced cybersecurity measures and legal restrictions limiting foreign companies’ participation in critical railway infrastructure projects such as the Berlin-Prague-Vienna high-speed rail line.
