On December 26, 2025, a WWII memorial stone honoring French Resistance fighters in Parigné-le-Pôlin, Sarthe, France, was defaced with Nazi symbols including 'SS' insignia and a Celtic cross, causing local outrage.
The day after Christmas 2025, in the commune of Parigné-le-Pôlin near Le Mans in Sarthe, black Nazi graffiti including the emblematic 'SS' symbol and a Celtic cross were discovered on a granite memorial stone honoring the French Resistance from World War II. The rock memorializes a parachute drop zone used in 1943 by resistance fighters from the Herescu-Blackmaster network. Mayor Joël Leproux expressed dismay and condemned the vandalism as ignorance and renunciation of history. Despite a cleaning effort, the black paint remains visible on the granite. The president of the local French Resistance Society, Christophe Liberal, denounced the act on social media on Christmas Day (December 25). The incident has stirred emotions in the small community and is considered a symbolic attack on local historical memory.
Confidence: High
The event clearly describes a hostile vandalism act involving Nazi graffiti, interpreted as a symbolic attack and desecration of a WWII Resistance memorial. The aggressor is implied to be an extremist actor committing a hate-motivated incident.
