From July 2024 onward, Russian electronic warfare efforts have intermittently jammed GPS signals impacting Finnish civilian flights, with approximately 7% of flights affected. This GPS jamming compromises aircraft navigation and timing systems, particularly observable around Helsinki airspace. The attacks illustrate an elevated Russian electronic warfare campaign targeting critical aviation infrastructure of a NATO member state, potentially to degrade civilian and military air operations. Such persistent jamming reflects an increased threshold and sophistication of hybrid tactics by Russia in the Baltic region.
