Polish Foreign Minister warns Russia may plan a false-flag attack following Putin's threats of retaliation against European countries allegedly involved in drone attacks on Russian territory.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated on 24 June 2026 that Russia could be preparing a false-flag operation after President Vladimir Putin threatened retaliation against European countries accused of conducting drone attacks on Russian territory. Putin declared Russia would respond to drone attacks launched from European countries. Sikorski compared Putin's warning to the 1939 Nazi false-flag Gleiwitz incident, where German agents staged an attack posing as Polish forces to justify invading Poland. Sikorski warned that an attack on Russian territory under false flag could provoke a Russian response. Warsaw has continuously warned of Russian hybrid warfare, sabotage, and disinformation targeting NATO countries amid rising tensions as the Ukraine war enters its fifth year.
