On May 19, 2026, Latvian State Border Guard officials stopped 64 persons from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus; a total of 3514 persons have been stopped so far this year. They detected 37 offenders at external borders and within Latvia. Among these, 19 trespassers were detected at external borders including one Belarusian citizen leaving from the Terehova Border Control Point carrying a forged Uzbekistan Technical Inspection Certificate for vehicle and trailer. Nine foreigners were refused entry to Latvia at Terehova, Grebņeva, and Riga Airport border points due to lack of valid visas, residence permits, inability to justify purpose and conditions of stay, or for security reasons. Two foreigners violated residence conditions: one Uzbek and one Russian at Riga Airport. Within the country, two persons (one Latvian, one Colombian) violated entry or residence conditions. Additionally, 16 persons faced administrative liability or were refused entry in vehicle and vessel operations; nationalities include Belarus, Latvia, Moldova, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Kazakhstan, and Romania.
Confidence: Medium
The information documents official border security and immigration enforcement activities rather than hostile hybrid aggression or sabotage actions. The focus is on law enforcement, preventing illegal border crossings, and administrative measures.
