Finnish intelligence warns increased threat of Russian sabotage targeting defence and Ukraine support activities, with recent attacks including suspected Russian arson on a Starlink station in Poland.
Finnish intelligence official Teemu Liikkanen from Supo states that the threat of Russian sabotage in Europe has increased over the summer, including in Finland. Vulnerable Finnish targets include the defence industry and activities supporting Ukraine. Russian sabotage activities have occurred in countries backing Ukraine for several years, with a notable decrease in 2025 but now rising again. Retired colonel Jyrki Isokangas highlights Russia's intent to undermine Western support for Ukraine by creating a divisive atmosphere, although he does not believe Russia seeks military confrontation with NATO. Russia is suspected of arson at a Starlink satellite station in Poland recently. Finnish President Alexander Stubb has urged citizens to mentally prepare for possible sabotage acts.
Confidence: High
Direct reporting of increased sabotage threat attributed to Russian actors, including recent attack on infrastructure and targeting of defence and Ukraine supporting elements. Intelligence officials and experts explicitly link activity to Russian hybrid warfare tactics.
