Lithuanian startup Mainline launched a crowd-sourced acoustic detection network to identify Shahed-type drones using volunteers' smartphones, aiming to build a large regional civic defense network with 10,000 active users across the Baltic states and Poland.
A Lithuanian startup called Mainline, in cooperation with activists and partners including the Lithuanian Artificial Intelligence Association, the Baltic Institute of Technology, and the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union, launched a crowd-source drone detection system named Drone Rada (Dronuradaras.lt). The system uses an app on volunteers' unused Android smartphones connected near windows to continuously analyze ambient sounds for low-frequency signatures characteristic of Shahed-type drone engines. When a suspicious sound is detected, an embedded algorithm analyzes the acoustic signature, and if multiple nearby devices detect the same signal, the system triangulates the drone's possible location. The initiative features a monitoring platform with a public interactive map and aims to recruit 10,000 active users across the Baltic states and Poland to create the largest civic acoustic drone detection network in the region. Future plans include integrating audio from residential surveillance cameras and cooperating with major Lithuanian mobile network operators to install sensors on telecommunications towers. User privacy is emphasized, aiming to collect minimal data necessary for detection and location determination.
Confidence: High
The report describes the launch of a defensive civilian drone acoustic detection network without mention of hostile acts or aggression, indicating a defense preparation measure.
