On the night of July 10-11, 2024, massive GPS jamming and intermittent radar jamming disrupted maritime navigation in the eastern Gulf of Finland near Hamina harbour, likely originating from Russian-controlled Gogland island.

On the night of July 10-11, 2024, pilots guiding ships to the port of Hamina in the eastern Gulf of Finland reported massive GPS jamming that made GPS unavailable for approximately 90% of the time between the Orrengrund pilot substation and Hamina harbour. In addition, intermittent radar jamming affected pilot boat radar. The jamming area likely extended further east and inland. The probable source of the electronic interference is the Russian-controlled island of Gogland (Hogland, Suursaari). This incident poses a serious risk to maritime safety and was confirmed by Kotka's chief pilot and publicly acknowledged by Finnish maritime pilot authorities. The jamming is attributed to Russian activity in the region.
