Russian spies are recruiting UK teenagers online, offering money and training to commit violence, sabotage, and espionage as disposable agents.
Russian intelligence agencies are recruiting violence-obsessed teenagers in the United Kingdom, offering them money, firearms, and training in explosives and poisons. This represents an escalation in Russian use of 'disposable' agents in the West to conduct violent acts, sabotage, and intelligence gathering. Open source analysis identified online networks attempting to recruit young UK individuals willing to carry out such activities. There are reports of teenagers being encouraged to engage in violent acts against Russian prison guards and soldiers in Ukraine, and others urged to commit sabotage or attacks on infrastructure or enemy forces. Evidence includes images shared in online Telegram groups depicting weapons and chemical preparation kits purportedly intended for these recruits. British officials, including a former senior intelligence officer, have expressed grave concerns over this new tactic from Russian spy agencies. The UK security services continue to monitor and counter such hybrid warfare activities.
Confidence: High
The report details intentional hostile recruitment by Russian intelligence to conduct violent sabotage and espionage in the UK, clearly representing an aggressive hybrid warfare tactic.
