Belarus plans to purchase 16 Chimera CX10 FPV drones by end-2024 for military training, supplementing other UAV acquisitions despite civilian-use restrictions.
According to open sources and Belarusian Hajun project information, the Belarusian Defense Ministry is set to acquire 16 Chimera CX10 FPV drones from the Chinese iFlight company by the end of 2024. These drones are characterized by a 10-inch size, speeds up to 140 km/h, and a payload capacity between 1.5 and 2.5 kilograms, with operational altitudes reaching 6000 meters. The projected per-drone expenditure of about BYN 460,000 ($8,951) notably exceeds retail prices, possibly due to added components like batteries or irregularities in procurement. Belarusian armed forces will likely use these drones for FPV pilot training, supported by previously procured FPV drone piloting simulators procured during spring 2024. Despite iFlight's official policy restricting its products to civilian use only, Belarus appears poised to integrate these UAVs into military applications, likely through intermediary purchases. Additionally, Belarus has bought or plans to buy other UAV systems in 2024, including Russian-made Supercam S350, Berkut-3 tactical reconnaissance drones from Belarus, and Chinese Autel models EVO MAX 4T, EVO MAX 4N, and Dragonfish Standard, reflecting a concerted UAV expansion strategy.
Confidence: High
Classified as aggressor event because Belarus, allied with Russia, is expanding UAV capabilities possibly related to regional military operations. Classified as defense prep due to Belarus's procurement of drones for training and reconnaissance, representing military capability development amidst ongoing hostilities in the region.
