Two drones were spotted over a German military base in Mechernich near Bonn, which reportedly houses components for US-made Patriot air-defense systems. This occurred days after an explosive-laden drone device was found at Leipzig/Halle airport, used by NATO, the German military, and serving as a base for Ukraine's Antonov Airlines. The German Bundeswehr confirmed military police were deployed to the Mechernich base following the drone sightings, which were handed over to local police. Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described these events as part of a regular pattern of 'destabilising' hybrid warfare attacks targeting Germany. The incident fits within a wider context of drone sightings over European military bases and airports supporting Ukraine in the ongoing war with Russia, with some European officials blaming Russia despite denials from Moscow. The German military declined to comment on the suspected origins of the drones. Meanwhile, Ukraine's President Zelensky has pleaded for further supplies of Patriot missile interceptor missiles, critical to Ukraine's air defense against Russian ballistic missile attacks.
