Latvian startup SUBmerge Baltic develops PIKE underwater drones for border and infrastructure monitoring in Baltic low-visibility waters, with plans for kamikaze and surface drones targeting Russian-held areas.
Latvian startup SUBmerge Baltic is developing the PIKE line of underwater drones intended for border monitoring and underwater infrastructure protection in low-visibility waters typical of Latvia and the Baltic region. The PIKE 1 remotely operated vehicle (ROV) features an 8-hour work duration, 49-mile operational range, and 984-feet operational depth equipped with Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) and 360-degree sonar for navigation. The PIKE autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) offers a 7-day operation time, 93-mile range, 1,640-feet depth capacity, and a 44-pound payload, including DVL, 360-degree sonar, inertial navigation system (INS), and GNSS navigation. SUBmerge Baltic also plans to develop a kamikaze drone and a surface vehicle designed to strike deep targets in Russian-occupied areas, while working on reducing production costs.
Confidence: High
The development of underwater drones specifically intended for border and underwater infrastructure monitoring and plans to develop kamikaze drones and surface vehicles to strike deep targets in Russian-occupied areas indicates clear hostile intent and applications in a hybrid warfare context in the Baltic maritime domain.
