Since March 12, 2024, a persistent GPS jamming operation named 'Baltic Jammer' has targeted the south Baltic region's airspace, affecting navigation for at least 873 unique aircraft, mostly civilian passenger jets. Ryanair flight SP-RKS notably lost GPS navigation for over two hours while operating near Vilnius, Lithuania. The jamming continued nearly nonstop for 46 hours before a brief 23 hour and 50 minute pause, after which it resumed disrupting flights again. This ongoing electronic warfare operation represents the longest duration of GPS spoofing or jamming in the region since similar activity was documented beginning in December 2023. Multiple researchers and data sources, including gpsjam.org and live_airplanes, confirm the scale and impact, which threatens civilian aviation safety and potentially hampers military operations in the Baltic States airspace. The event underscores increasing electronic warfare threats in the Baltic region amid regional geopolitical tensions.
