A Chinese woman has been arrested in Norway on suspicion of complicity in espionage. The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) suspects attempts to collect data from satellites through a Norwegian-registered company, which is a cover for a Chinese state actor's effort to establish a satellite data reception station on Andøya. The satellite receiver has been confiscated, stopping further plans to operate the equipment. The operation involved raids at two addresses: one on Andøya in Nordland and another in Otta, Innlandet. The Norwegian company involved is owned by a company in Singapore and had purchased property on Andøya earlier this year. Several other suspects are involved but have not been arrested. PST and local police have long warned about foreign intelligence activities near critical infrastructure on Andøya, a major launch site for research rockets and a defense testing range. PST has documented Chinese and Russian interest in purchasing property near sensitive military and infrastructure sites in Norway. Andøya Space, the operator of the launch site, has experienced increased security threats including drone activity and confirmed close cooperation with police and defense agencies.
