On Midsummer’s Eve evening after 18:00 local time, fiber optic cables in Ylöjärvi municipality were deliberately cut, causing train services on the main railway line between Tampere and Seinäjoki to stop. The disruption lasted until the next night. The investigation was escalated from the Central Finland Police to the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (KRP) because motives behind the act are unclear, and hybrid influence activities cannot be ruled out. No current indications point to hybrid warfare. Separately, on the preceding Friday morning, fiber optic data cables in the Takoraudantie area of Helsinki’s Malmi district were deliberately cut, causing local telecommunication disruptions. Both incidents are investigated under aggravated property damage, with KRP requesting public sightings of persons near the scenes at relevant times. Police note presence of persons moving by car, bicycle, and foot near the Ylöjärvi site but do not suspect them of crime.
