On September 1st, hackers breached the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) database in Latvia, leaking contact information of licensed entities and officials.
On September 1st, 2026, the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) in Latvia was hacked, compromising the 'Remote Statistical Data Retrieval System' (ASDIS), a level C security class system used to supervise licensed merchants. The breach resulted in the theft of contact information for 697 business representatives and 34 PTAC officials, including names, surnames, emails, and phone numbers. While most data was publicly available, 106 contacts were not. The system has been closed following the incident. The hack followed recent successful attacks on Latvian State Forests (LVM) and the Road Transport Safety Directorate (CSDD). Cybersecurity expert Gints Mālkalnietis of CERT.lv assessed the risk as minor and simpler relative to the prior attacks. CERT.lv indicated the hackers were not from Latvia, Russia, or Europe and that the stolen data was posted on a popular hacker forum.
Confidence: High
The incident involves an unauthorized cyber intrusion into an official government system with theft and public dissemination of sensitive personal data, indicating hostile hybrid warfare activity.
