US citizen indicted in Koblenz for alleged espionage for China at US military base in Germany

The German Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe has indicted a US citizen who worked at a US military base in Germany on suspicion of espionage for China. The individual is accused of offering sensitive information from the US military to a Chinese intelligence service. The suspect worked for a civilian contractor for the US Department of Defense from 2017 until spring 2023, including deployment on a US military base in Germany since 2020. In summer 2024, he reportedly contacted Chinese state authorities multiple times, offering transmission of sensitive US military data. No evidence has yet shown actual data transfer. The suspect's dissatisfaction with his employer may be a motive, currently investigated by authorities. A court in Koblenz will decide on the indictment and possible trial.
