From early July 2024, there has been a marked increase in GPS jamming incidents affecting Finnish aviation, roughly tripling over the past 30 days compared to routine levels in April-May and a lull in June. The interference has expanded in both geographic reach and intensity, affecting larger areas and more aircraft. Data comparisons show the jamming originates from Russian sources, notably near Kaliningrad and an area referred to as Estonia. This disruption is considered an electronic warfare operation aiming to interfere with aviation navigation systems in Finnish airspace.
