A suspected drone entered Lithuanian airspace from Poland on 2026-10-18, triggered red air-danger alerts in Šiauliai and Panevėžys counties, and crashed in Juodžioniai village, damaging a car but causing no injuries.
Lithuanian authorities reported a suspected dangerous drone incident on Sunday morning, 2026-10-18. Residents first called the emergency number 112 at 06:15 local time from Kalvarija municipality about a possibly flying dangerous drone, with the largest flow of similar reports from 07:00 local time in Kaunas, Šiauliai and Panevėžys counties. The Lithuanian Armed Forces instructed the Fire and Rescue Department to send air-danger alerts, first yellow-level messages to Kaunas county at 06:44 local time and later yellow and then red-level alerts to Šiauliai and Panevėžys counties. A red air-danger level was declared in Panevėžys and Šiauliai counties after an object entered Lithuanian airspace from Poland and was cancelled after about one hour. Wreckage of the crashed drone was found in Juodžioniai village, Pasvalys district; a possible explosion was reported, but services had not confirmed whether the drone carried explosives. Drone debris damaged a car travelling on a road, but passengers were not injured. The incident will be assessed within an existing pre-trial investigation into Russia's aggression against Ukraine and possible war crimes.
Confidence: Medium
The primary subject is a suspected cross-border drone intrusion into Lithuanian airspace that triggered air-danger alerts and resulted in wreckage on Lithuanian territory. Under the classification rule, drone spotting, intrusion, or shot-down leads are HYBRID_SIGNAL. Aggressor attribution and payload are not fully confirmed, but the incident is being assessed within an investigation into Russia's aggression against Ukraine and possible war crimes.
