In April 2026, Croatian police and state prosecutors investigated and arrested two minors and one adult on suspicion of terrorism related to multiple false bomb threat emails sent to educational institutions and media companies across several Croatian cities. The threats, sent on April 23, 24, 28, and 29 using electronic devices, claimed explosives had been planted and threatened to detonate causing death, particularly endangering children. The campaigns led to mass evacuations, extensive bomb searches by police, and widespread alarm among students, staff, and the public. The suspects, reportedly connected via gaming chat groups where the idea emerged as a challenge, were taken into custody. One 16-year-old suspect allegedly used an Estonian server to send the emails. Investigations continue, with prosecutors in Zagreb and Split filing terrorism charges. The adult suspect is under ongoing investigation coordinated with Croatia's anti-corruption and organized crime office.
