Most US rotational troops have left Estonia with a new rotation expected in summer lasting until year-end; future troop presence is unknown.
Most of the US rotational military unit stationed in Estonia has departed for an indefinite period. Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur states that a new rotation is expected in summer and will stay until the end of the year, but details on subsequent years are unknown. The current unit numbered 500-700 troops spread across Tapa and southern Estonia, with fewer than 100 now remaining. These troops originally came from brigades based in Poland or Romania. The US deployment to Estonia is based on a bilateral agreement which remains unchanged. The timing and size of future rotations are uncertain pending Pentagon reviews. Parliamentary Defence Committee Chair Kalev Stoicescu criticized the US for leaving Estonia and other eastern flank countries waiting, emphasizing US decisions are based on their own interests. NATO's upcoming summit in Ankara is not expected to clarify US troop presence in Estonia. Estonia must rely on its own capabilities and rotating NATO battlegroups in the Baltics for now.
Confidence: High
This signal reports on the withdrawal and uncertain rotation schedule of allied US troops in Estonia, impacting defense posture but not indicating hostile or aggressive acts.
