At the end of March 2026, a sabotage attack on the electrical supply of a pump station in Terzo di Tolmezzo, Italian Alps, caused a shutdown of the Transalpine Pipeline (TAL). This triggered a three-day disruption to the delivery of crude oil to major German refineries such as Miro in Karlsruhe and Bayernoil's Neustadt and Vohburg locations. German authorities were informed by Italian counterparts and the German Federal Criminal Police (BKA) is in contact with Italian authorities investigating the politically motivated nature of the incident. Despite the outage, the Miro refinery maintained full product availability using oil reserves, and no fuel shortages occurred at retail stations during this period. The refinery supplies fuel and heating for about ten million people daily, covering roughly 45% of primary energy needs in Baden-Württemberg. Repairs allowed pipeline flow to resume and inventory rebuilding began in early April.
