A crashed explosive drone was found and detonated safely in Viișoara, Vaslui County, Romania, near the Moldova border on Sept 1, 2026.
A crashed drone containing explosives was found on an agricultural field in the extravilan area of Viișoara commune, Vaslui County, Romania, on the morning of September 1, 2026. The drone was found approximately 30 km from the border with the Republic of Moldova by a local resident who alerted the police. Authorities, including the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) antiterrorism specialists, local police, and gendarmes, secured and evacuated the area and determined the drone contained explosives. The SRI specialists safely detonated the drone. The Vaslui County Prefect, Andrei Șerban, confirmed presence of representatives from the SRI, County Gendarmerie Inspectorate, and County Police Inspectorate at the scene. The Iași Court of Appeal Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation into the circumstances and origin of the drone. No casualties or material damage were reported.
Confidence: Medium
The discovery of a crashed drone carrying explosives near a national border, requiring antiterrorist intervention and being subject to a criminal investigation for origin, indicates hostile paramilitary hybrid warfare activity, consistent with a hybrid warfare signal.
