Several drones and drone parts washed up or were found in the Black Sea near Bulgaria's Varna coast between August 25-26, 2026. Bulgarian Navy teams examined, transported, or destroyed the unmanned aerial vehicles, citing no danger to the public. The incidents are attributed to strong northeast winds and waves moving drones toward shore.
On August 26, 2026, multiple drone incidents occurred along Bulgaria’s northern Black Sea coast near Varna. A drone about 2 meters long and 1.5 meters wide washed up on Cabacum beach, inspected by a Bulgarian Navy specialist team and deemed not dangerous. In recent days, the sea reportedly brought up about six drones or drone parts due to strong northeast winds and high waves. On August 25, a specialist team from Bourgas Naval Base identified an electric reconnaissance drone in the Black Sea near Tsarevo and Varvara, which was transported to the naval base. Another Navy team destroyed a drone found in the sea near Pomorie. Additional missions by Naval Base Varna personnel involved reconnoitering and detonating drones or drone parts found in waters near Pasha Dere (south of Varna) and the Kamchia resort. A wing from a military drone without ammunition was recovered and deemed not dangerous. All operations followed safety procedures and were executed by military personnel.
Confidence: High
Multiple unmanned aerial vehicles of military design were found along a contested maritime area, requiring military intervention including destruction and reconnaissance; these are consistent with hostile hybrid warfare surveillance or reconnaissance activities in a contested zone.
