On December 13, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump's envoy John Coale announced that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko promised to cease weather balloon flyovers originating from Belarus into Lithuanian airspace. This move follows tensions over balloon incursions at the border, which were described by the European Commission President as a 'hybrid attack' by Belarus. Lukashenko assured normal relations with neighbors and expressed intent to resolve issues causing disruptions. The announcement signals a de-escalation in the use of aerial surveillance tools crossing into Lithuanian airspace, aiding border stability.
