On July 11, 2025, 13 foreign nationals attempted to illegally cross the Poland-Lithuania border through the forest. These migrants began their unauthorized journey to Western Europe from Latvia. None of the migrants had documents permitting border crossing or legal stay in Poland. The group consisted of 5 Somali citizens, 2 Eritreans, 3 Indians, 1 Bangladeshi, 1 Sudanese, and 1 Egyptian citizen. All were handed over to Lithuanian authorities under the readmission procedures, who will in turn likely transfer them back to Latvia.
