On or before December 11, 2025, the US Department of Justice unsealed a California grand jury indictment exposing Russian GRU hackers conducting cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure in the United States. The attacks hit a regional airport in Missouri, multiple drinking water and water storage facilities in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Indiana, and a meat packing facility in California. The cyberattacks caused significant physical damage, including 200,000 gallons of water overflow in Texas and spoilage of 2,000 pounds of meat in California. The indictment publicly identifies one hacker, humorously noted in social media remarks. These events represent a serious campaign of hostile cyber operations against US critical infrastructure by Russian military intelligence actors.
