Two employees of the sanctioned Russian pro-war Telegram channel Rybar live in Berlin, working under cover for the Russian publisher Iswestija, spreading Kremlin propaganda about the war against Ukraine.
Two employees of the large Russian pro-war propaganda Telegram channel 'Rybar' live in Berlin. They officially work for the Russian publishing house 'Iswestija', which, along with the founder of Rybar, is sanctioned by the EU for Kremlin propaganda. The channel Rybar, with around 1.5 million subscribers and several regional branches, spreads military-analytical content and Kremlin-friendly disinformation supporting Russia's war efforts against Ukraine. The founder, Mikhail Zvinchuk, is sanctioned by the EU and the US has offered a reward for information on Rybar employees, linking the organization with state Russian defense funding. The two Berlin residents, Vitaly Chashchukhin (reporter) and Igor Dolmatov (cameraman), have lived in Berlin since at least 2014 and 2018 respectively and were exposed during an operation in the Czech Republic. They fled when confronted by journalists, were ordered to leave the country by Czech police, and claimed to work for Iswestija. Their residence is in the Zehlendorf villa district of Berlin.
Confidence: High
The signal involves sanctioned Russian pro-war propagandists operating covertly within Berlin, spreading Kremlin disinformation to support Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. This is classic hostile hybrid warfare activity via information operations on foreign soil.
