On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday (early August 2026), a drone equipped with a high-explosive military-grade bomb was found at Leipzig/Halle Airport near Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft. One of these aircraft was loaded with military ammunition recently transported from France. A contact incident occurred between the drone and an airport employee. The drone bypassed existing airport drone defense systems and was detected visually only hours later. The event led to temporary suspension of flights and involved a near-collision between a DHL cargo plane and a probable second drone. Investigations focus on the adapted Semtex explosive drone and possible hybrid attack scenario.
