Estonian startup Frankenburg Technologies will test a new affordable mini anti-drone missile in Ukraine in early 2025, designed with AI to counter drones flying up to 2 km altitude amid ongoing Russian drone attacks.
An Estonian tech startup, Frankenburg Technologies, has developed a miniature anti-aircraft missile designed to counter low-flying drones and plans to test it in Ukraine in early 2025 amid ongoing Russian drone attacks. The Mark 1 missile uses artificial intelligence software to target incoming threats and aims to be significantly more affordable and faster to produce than current industry offerings. The missile can counter drones at altitudes of up to 2 kilometers. Frankenburg Technologies operates in Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, and soon the UK, where it will invest €50 million in research and development. The Ukrainian military currently relies on electronic-warfare sensors, jammers, and small arms to counter drones, which remain imperfect. Other companies also offer small, relatively inexpensive counter-drone missiles.
Confidence: High
The signal details development and planned deployment of a defensive missile system to counter drone attacks by Russia in Ukraine, reflecting defense preparation rather than offensive action.
