Lithuania faces the risk of very serious provocations after Russia accused the Baltic state of allowing Ukrainian drone strikes via its airspace. A top Lithuanian presidential aide, Deividas Matulionis, dismissed the Russian claims as nonsense and propaganda but indicated the threat extended beyond public propaganda to Russian special services. Lithuania strongly defends its sovereignty, denies direct involvement in hostilities, and maintains that any drones entering Baltic airspace likely drifted off course due to Russian electronic warfare. Lithuanian officials also highlight the possibility of Russian provocations including simulating Ukrainian drone flights or diverting drones towards Lithuania. These warnings follow statements from Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda against using Lithuanian territory for drone strikes. The Speaker of the Seimas, Juozas Olekas, confirmed non-public information about potential Russian actions and stressed preparedness for various provocations without panic.
