Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Oleg Zikov, the acting Russian chargé d'affaires, on March 27, 2024, to deliver a strict protest over prolonged unacceptable and provocative public statements by the Russian embassy that violate the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Despite repeated warnings from Latvia's Foreign Ministry, the embassy's communications continued to discredit Latvia and incite hatred within Latvian society. As a result, Latvian Foreign Minister decided to expel one Russian embassy diplomat as persona non grata, who must leave Latvia by April 10, 2024. This diplomatic action underscores Latvia's firm stance against hostile propaganda and diplomatic misconduct amid heightened bilateral tensions.
