Fugitive Wirecard COO Jan Marsalek exposed as decade-long GRU spy

Jan Marsalek, born March 15, 1980, is the fugitive former COO of Wirecard, a major German financial services company that collapsed after a $2 billion accounting fraud in 2020. Marsalek, also accused of masterminding money laundering and harassment campaigns against journalists, fled to Russia in June 2020 amid the scandal and has been living there under the assumed identity of Father Konstantin Baiazov, a real Russian Orthodox priest. Investigations reveal Marsalek has been a GRU military intelligence agent for over a decade and has worked with the FSB since defecting to Russia. Marsalek enjoyed protection from Russian intelligence, including deletion of travel records linking to his girlfriend from official databases.
