Two Russian Su-30SM and Il-78 aircraft violated Lithuanian airspace near Kaliningrad on 23 Oct 2025; intercepted by Spanish NATO fighters.
On 23 October 2025, two Russian military aircraft, a Su-30SM and an Il-78, conducted an airspace violation into Lithuanian territory from the Kaliningrad region, penetrating about 700 meters into Lithuanian airspace for approximately 18 seconds. The incident prompted a response by two Spanish Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon jets on NATO air policing duty which scrambled to intercept the violators.
Confidence: High
The deliberate violation of Lithuanian sovereign airspace by Russian combat and tanker aircraft constitutes a hostile military act indicative of aggressive intent. Quick NATO fighter scrambled response confirms recognized threat.
