17 migrants from Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia detained after illegal border crossing near Sejny (Poland-Lithuania).
On December 18, 2025, at approximately 10:25 UTC, Polish Border Guard units stationed at Sejny interdicted 17 young male migrants after they illegally crossed the border between Poland and Lithuania. The migrants originate from Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia. They possessed passes issued by a foreigner center in Latvia, suggesting coordinated transit through multiple Baltic states. This incident highlights ongoing challenges in controlling irregular migration flows in the Baltic region and potential use of migration as a destabilizing tool.
Confidence: High
The illegal crossing by a coordinated group of migrants carrying foreigner center passes and originating from multiple unstable countries suggests a potential hybrid tactic for border destabilization.
