The immediate perpetrators are two Ukrainian nationals under 20 years old, one a minor, who acted on orders coordinated via social media through a multilevel network involving Russian, Ukrainian, and Lithuanian citizens. The attack caused severe damage and endangered people, though the store was closed at the time with only about ten persons inside. The suspect was arrested on May 13, 2024 en route to Riga, Latvia, allegedly to conduct another attack. The perpetrators were promised a BMW 530 and 10,000 euros as rewards. This case marks one of Lithuania's first terrorist group-related crimes, reflecting complex transnational coordination and symbolic targeting of Ikea due to its closures in Russia post-Ukraine invasion. The investigation is ongoing, with international cooperation including Poland. Prosecutors also submitted a civil claim for 485,000 euros in damages.
