Traficom, Finland's national transport and communications authority, observed increasing satellite navigation and mobile network interference in early 2026, notably affecting aviation at cruising altitudes over southern and central Finland, maritime navigation in the eastern Gulf of Finland, and localized cellular disruptions near Finland's eastern border. Mobile network disruptions now occur during day and night, causing dropped calls though the overall network remains operational due to redundant synchronization measures. This interference is attributed to Russian self-protection jamming aimed at shielding critical Russian assets. Traficom has filed formal interference complaints with Russia and the ITU. Preparedness through alternative aviation navigation methods and resilient communications infrastructure ensures public safety and functionality. The interference rises with improved spring radio propagation, with spoofing activity also reported.
