Russian intelligence, using former Wagner Group recruiters integrated into the GRU, recruits vulnerable Europeans via Telegram to conduct sabotage operations on NATO territory, including arson and disinformation attacks.
Following the death of Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, Russian intelligence integrated Wagner recruitment networks into the GRU and shifted their focus from frontline volunteer recruitment to organizing sabotage operations across Europe. These networks target marginalized and economically vulnerable Europeans, recruiting them via encrypted Telegram channels to conduct sabotage acts such as arson on warehouses supplying Ukraine, vandalism of politicians' vehicles, and spreading disinformation.
