A Brussels court sentenced Viktor Labin, a Russia-Belgium dual citizen and operative of the Russian GRU military intelligence agency, to five years in prison for illegally exporting dual-use goods and chemicals to Russia, including sensors for detecting explosions and yttrium oxide used in high-tech manufacturing. Labin and a Brussels businessman falsified customs documents and routed shipments through Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan to hide their destination. Labin's son, Ruslan, was sentenced in absentia to six years, with arrest ordered. Labin supplied coordinate-measuring machines essential for Russian weapons production through Belgian companies. He was arrested in February 2026 after a June 2025 police search. Prosecutors classify the conduct as a political crime linked to sanction evasion amidst the war against Ukraine.
